Disturbing lack of abstracts regarding gender or SRHR in the main conference

Over the past years, we have been supporting our colleagues at Making Waves and the Transgender Law Center to track the content of abstracts over previous years, as well as the number of women living with HIV in all diversity as co-authors and/or co-presenters.

The results are depressing and disturbing. Year on year the situation is getting worse. Conferences generate evidence which, in turn, shapes policies, programmes and funding. Without women living with HIV as co-researchers, and without addressing issues which are important to us as research topics, the quality of research about our lives will not be up to standard.

We call on conference organisers to use relevant co-author and topic inclusion criteria for abstract acceptance, to ensure that research is in line with WHO’s SRHR Guideline.
